Some history

It all started back in 1993 when Paul’s dad realised there was a lack of available data storage services for local companies in the North East. Shaun was keen to establish his own business to close this gap in the market and went on to purchase a small lot of 2,000 square feet in Wallsend, which saw the creation of Datastor NE ltd.

A successful business

After a few years and many new clients, Shaun recruited his wife Liz, Paul and other family members to work at Datastor, which has experienced major growth over the years (you can check out the Datastor Timeline to see just how much the company has grown). Datastor are now storing over 275,000 boxes and have rolled out other consumer focused services such as bike and self storage. They have also built long standing relationships with local businesses such as the NHS, David Gray Solicitors, Balfour Beatty and Northern Aerospace.

Better call Paul

This year has seen the end of an era for Shaun and a new one for Paul as the business was recently passed over to Paul and his partner, Ali. Between them, they are now managing Datastor’s day-to-day operations while also taking care of two children – Noah (4 years) and Zoe (6 months). Talk about a heavy load! Despite the hectic home-life, Paul is very much hands-on with clients requests while managing the warehouse and working around the clock to improve overall company performance. When speaking about taking over Datastor, Paul said:

“It’s exciting that the business has been passed down to me after 15 years. It’s a chance for me to take over the reigns and seize a big opportunity to keep offering a helpful and friendly service to clients and also make a better life for my family.”
